Despite recently shutting down bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US still maintains some 800 military bases in scores of countries and territories abroad. The US military budget which is the largest in the world topped 600 billion dollars in 2015, easily dwarfing the rest of the world. The only nuclear-armed state that has used its atomic bombs against another nation is definitely the leading country when it comes to pursuing warmongering policies. And Washington’s bellicosity has just intensified over time. Now the US is developing plans which it says will prepare Washington for future types of military confrontations.
Weinstein scandal fallout
Hundreds of thousands of women around the world are sharing their experiences of sexual abuse in an online campaign using #MeToo on Twitter and with rolling posts on Facebook. The social media campaign has been launched by a Hollywood actress in reaction to sexual abuse allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. A list of women has come out which includes actresses who claim they were targeted by Weinstein during their career- allegations which have cost him his job and his image in the western film industry. Some believe that those who accuse Weinstein are losing the bigger picture, namely Hollywood’s glorification of sex and violence.
