Death of special needs student

The death of a special needs student who passed away 19 days after he was attacked in a Washington, D.C., classroom is under investigation.

The Ballou High School student was approached by three assailants and was struck several times in the face and body after not allowing two of them to use his cell phone, according to police.

WUSA and NBC in Washington on Tuesday identified the victim as 17-year-old Joevon Smith.

Smith also said he was sprayed with “perfume” during the Jan. 10 attack.

A student who was attacked at Ballou High School in Washington, D.C., earlier this month has died.

He was pronounced dead Monday night at a local hospital. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results.

There have been no arrests, but the probe — which is now a death investigation — is ongoing, according to cops.

“We cannot say that the alleged assault is related to this death,” police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told the Daily News on Tuesday.
