Working in digital media as a middle-aged person can be challenging. After all, there’s a constant need to know what the kids are into these days, and without kids of my own, it can get challenging. Thankfully, we’ve got the annual iHeart Radio Awards to tell us old heads who’s hot and who’s on the come up.
In fact, last night’s awards show, which took place at The Forum in Ingleside, CA, could be considered the baby of all the music awards shows, as this year’s ceremony was only its fifth. Launched in 2014, the iHeart Radio Awards celebrate the most popular performers of each year (which totally sets it apart from other awards shows), based on cumulative performance data and listener feedback.
This year’s ceremony was co-hosted by model/celebrity spawn Hailey Baldwin and DJ Khaled (yes, Asahd was there). You can catch the entire list of winners here, but it’s safe to say that the big winner of the night was everyone’s favorite regular, degular, schmegular Cinderellla story Cardi B, who not only snagged Best New Artist and Best New Hip Hop Artist wins, but opened the show with a medley of her greatest hits. (Yes, I know. I was confused by that concept too. But then I remembered that she’d had 5 songs in the Top 10.)
And just in case you thought this event was just for the younguns, there were a few slightly more mature talents in the mix, including Ne-Yo, Bon Jovi and Ray Parker Jr., accompanied by his grown son, Jericho. Check out all the red carpet do’s, dont’s, and why’s below…and turn up your radio!
