A man was shot and wounded early Saturday after Kentucky police said he fired at a cop during a confrontation in a car.
Elijah Eubanks was in a car with two other people parked outside an apartment complex when Louisville Metro Police Officers Ian Stuart and Eric Goldschmidt approached them at around 1 a.m.
The officers were responding to a report of an “occupied, suspicious” vehicle, cops said.
Goldschmidt asks Eubanks, who’s seated in the passenger seat, to get out of the vehicle, while Stuart tells the driver to exit, police body cam video shows.
Eubanks repeatedly refuses to get out.
“Why are you harassing me, sir?” he asks Goldschmidt.
“We had a call of suspicious individuals, nobody recognized in this car,” the cop replies.
“This is her house,” the 20-year-old says. “This is his mom’s car.”
Goldschmidt heads to the passenger door, and as it opens, Eubanks points at the officer with what appeared to be a dark object, video shows.
“Gun, gun, gun, gun!” Goldschmidt shouts. Multiple shots can be heard on video.
Eubanks is seen lying down on the ground next to a car while cops shout: “Show me your hands! Stop moving!”
He was in stable condition at a hospital. The officers weren’t injured. Police say a gun was recovered at the scene, according to the Courier-Journal.
The police department is investigating the shooting.
