Only the undead will be happy about this.
Danai Gurira, who stars as zombie-slaying Michonne on “The Walking Dead,” will leave after Season 10, which debuts next October.
She’s only expected to appear in a limited number of episodes in her final season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Gurira, who first appeared in the hit AMC show in season 3, is expected to move on to the three “Walking Dead” movies that are currently in the works.
Former series star Andrew Lincoln, who played Rick Grimes on the post-apocalyptic series, departed the show earlier in the current season to focus on the movies as well.
Gurira, 40, and Lincoln, 45, played lovers on the show.
Their departures are just the latest for the show, which often sees the good guys die off while battling zombies or human enemies. Rick’s son Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, died from a zombie bite in Season 8.
Gurira has also appeared as Okoye in the Marvel films “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” She made her Broadway acting debut in 2009 in “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” and wrote “Eclipsed,” a play set at the end of the Second Liberian Civil War, which opened on Broadway in 2016.
“The Walking Dead,” now in its ninth season, returns this Sunday for its mid-season premiere.
