The 12-minute video, which was not bleeped, shows several officers questioning four men outside a McDonald’s in Silver Spring when one of the cops, whose name has not been released, uses the slur at the group. Police were investigating a trespassing complaint.
“Hey, you want to get out of here fast, right?” she’s heard saying. “So if you have more people, ya’ll n—-s been trying to do something…”
The Montgomery County Department of Police apologized for the incident and said the officers are under investigation. The agency released both the officer’s body-cam video as well as the Instagram video recorded by one of the young men.
“The matter brought to our attention today is disturbing and contrary to our department’s values and our overarching mission to fairly and impartially serve our community,” police said in a statement. “The statements observed on the social media video clip are contrary to our extensive training curriculum that include implicit bias training and other training programs to ensure fair, unbiased, and non-discriminatory policing in our community.”
The body-cam video shows officers patting the young men down and questioning them as they repeatedly complain they’re going to be late for work.
“Are you hurt?” one officer is heard asking one of the men. “Then stop crying. You’re acting like a little girl.”
After the man recording the Instagram video called the officer who used the N-word a “racist ass b—h,” the officer claimed she was repeating his own words.
