Meet the Founder Of the First Black-Owned Beauty School to Open in Horry County

Sheneka Hammond Brown, is the fist African American to own a beauty school in horry county. She started her career in the kitchen of her parent’s home in Kingstree, south Carolina, in the 1990s. She considered various other career paths, but realized cosmetilogy was her passion and decided to obtain her cosmetologist license to advance in the industry.

She opened the doors to her first salon in 2006, called Hollywood Exclusive Hair Salon, in Conway, SC. In 2016, she expanded her business and opened a new 9,000 square feet salon, SHB International Hair Studio. Shaneka has a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism, and says that God directed her to open SHB International Hair Academy in 2019located at 1403 Third Avenue, Conway, South Carolina.

The SHB International Hair Academy School of Cosmetology is accepting students who are interested in getting the training required to embark on a lucrative career in Cosmetology and offers the highest level of training in Cosmetology, Nail Technician and Esthetics. Classes begin in June with day and night courses offered to meet diverse schedules. Students who are interested in enrolling may do so in person at the Conway campus or online at SHBHairAcademy.com.

The owner of the SHB International Hair Academy School of Technology, Hammond Brown, is offering $18,000 in scholarships to the first 20 students who are approved for enrollment.
