Hundreds of demonstrators and social media users in Nigeria and else where are calling for the release of top Nigerian cleric, Ibrahim Zakzaky who has been hold by the Nigerian government since December 2015. His supporters say that Zakzaky needs urgent help and medical care while other warn that he is in danger of being killed.
Protests have been held in Nigeria, Turkey, US and else where to demand the release of sheikh Zakzaky. In Nigeria dozens of protestors have been killed and many were arrested by the Nigeria officers during the protest. According to human rights group Nigerian forces have over a past four years killed at least 400 members of Islamic movement which Zakzaky lead. The movement is concerned about Zakzaky’s health condition.
Leader of Islamic movement say that Zakzaky condition has worthen since it been announced that he was poisoned in prison. Zakzaky’s son also say that his father is in urgent need of medical treatment as large and dangerous quantity of lead was found in his blood.
Sheikh Zakzaky lost his left eye sight in 2015 raid by security forces that left more than 300 of his followers and three of his son dead. In 2016 Nigeria Federal High Court have ordered Zakzaky’s unconditional release following a trayol but Nigerian government have so far Refused to do so. With protests in rise it’s waited to be seen whether Nigerian government will release him.
